Welcome to the Farm......

Visitor on the farm.........

West Cottonwood School is excited to offer The School Farm as an elective course at West Cottonwwod School.  This course is designed to introduce students to the world of agriculture. Students will be designing, planting, and maintaining a school garden. Students will also be in charge of the care and feeding of any animals we may acquire, such as chickens and goats. In addition, we will be learning about composting, mulching, soil improvement, plant science, seed saving, etc. This elective will require students to be outside in all kinds of weather.

West Cottonwood School Farm welcomes Marleigh Hollmer.

This year's Farm and Garden Elective at West Cottonwood will be taught by Mrs. Hollmer. Mrs. Hollmer is one of the four Ag Teachers at West Valley High School, where she primarily teaches Ag Science 1. Mrs. Hollmer is from Cottonwood, and is a graduate from West Valley High School's Ag Department. From there, she attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and then Chico State to earn her teaching credential. Mrs. Hollmer is passionate about agriculture and the endless opportunities for career and leadership development that it can offer.

West Cottonwood's Farm and Garden Elective will have an extra piece added to it this year: Eighth grade students who take part in the elective can also be enrolled in the first ever West Cottonwood Junior High FFA program. The Farm and Garden Elective will consist of a poultry unit, where students will be able to market and sell the eggs produced on the school farm. In addition, there will be "visiting" livestock animals that we bring in to work with. Students who opt to take the "FFA" portion of the class will focus on leadership, public speaking, and agriculture advocacy.
