LAURA WALKER

5th Grade

“Life is no brief candle to me. It’s sort of a splendid torch that I’ve got to hold up for a moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”

In the world of education, I've taught 3rd-5th grade Spanish, first grade, and fifth grade in a classroom setting, worked as a K-12th grade independent tutor, spent many years as a softball hitting instructor/coach, and currently coach volleyball and softball at West Cottonwood. Before entering the classroom, I worked as a senior editor for the proofreading/editing firm PaperCheck, an assistant to the VP of HCJB World Radio, as well as in a plethora of odd jobs ranging from a Starbucks mystery shopper to a field maintenance crew worker at the university softball stadium.

I love working with kids, developing as a teacher myself, and watching little hearts and minds grow through a school year. Investing in relationships with my students through communication and encouragement is key to their growth, motivation, and success.

My favorite job of all is raising my own two kids, Jackson (15) and Ella (12). My best and most practical life experience for the classroom comes from the invaluable and challenging task of parenting!
